In our Capstone Exhibition class this semester, we learned how to create exhibition drawings. Below are my elevation drawings for my Hoffbrau exhibition that I was planning on building on the second floor of the Art Building at UT Austin. However due to the social distancing order during the COVID-19 pandemic, we chose to continue our exhibition projects online in a different format. Even though I was unable to build out this plan, I learned a lot about how to map out and visualize 3D spaces and explore my creativity in a new way.
As mapped out below, my initial plan was to create an installation that made viewers feel like they were actually inside the restaurant. The plans included things like: having one table where my new brand guidelines would be displayed, framed touch points of the restaurant’s brand on the wall, a new restaurant sign upon entrance, and t-shirts hung on the wall. The installation would have been in a hallway where one side represented The Hoffbrau’s current state and location on West 6th Street, and the other side represented the restaurant’s renovations to its brand and appearance.
I felt this installation would have been the best way to successfully portray the new ambiance of the restaurant, and the ways in which it would improve its appearance in order to thrive in today’s world. Social media, the Gen Z generation, Austin locals and regulars, as well as new customers are all important to a restaurant in order to stay afloat and advance in Austin’s competitive restaurant environment, and my project successfully allows for this to happen.
